Gyldenholt/Calafia Friendship Tourney (March)(Barony of Gyldenholt)
This weekend event is hosted by the Barony of Gyldenholt at Cedar Grove Park in Tustin, California.

Highland War (usually August 31-September 4) (Shire of Al-Sahid)
This multiple day event is hosted by Shire of Al-Sahid.  The exact location may vary on a given year but it is generally located in Ridgecrest, California. Highland War offers typically two days of range combat, including both thrown weapons and archery, as well as a variety of different shoots.

This weekend event is hosted by the Barony of Dreiburgen and is held at Yucaipa Regional Park in Yucaipa, California.
Archery/cross-bow competitions run all day.  There is also a thrown weapons competition.

This week long event is hosted by the Kingdom of Gleann at King’s Arrow Ranch, 26 King’s Highway, Luberton, Missouri, 39455.  This War offers multiple days of archery, combat archery, and thrown weapons competition.

In addition to the Societal Events, there are other societal wide competitions do not require travel.  They are shot at individual practices or Baronial level events. These Competitions include:
(1) Inter-Kingdom Archery Competitions,
(2) the Seasonal Society Archery Challenges, and
(3) the Grand Archery Competition.

 

The Inter-Kingdom Archery Competition/Inter-Kingdom Combat Archery Competition (IKAC/IKCAC)
The IKAC is a target Archery tournament that allows archers from all over the Knowne World to complete in an SCA wide competition on behalf of their Kingdoms. The IKCAC is a combat Archery Tourney that enables combat archers to participate in a similar type of tourney format. Both tournaments begin on February 1 and end on December 1. The IKAC as multiple divisions, including (1) open target archery, (2) period archery, (3) cross-bow, and (4) a Youth division for younger archers. This competition is open to all archers across the SCA. Archers within Caid shoot and submit their scores to Archery Marshals/Captains of Archers, who then submit those scores to the SCA Archery Score Website. These scores are then placed into individual division depending upon the type of bow and the age of the archer. The three highest-scoring archers within a Kingdom become a team. The average of the top three archers is then compared against other Kingdom’s top three archers to determine Kingdom rankings and, ultimately, the winners of the tournament. The Seasonal Societal Archery Challenges
The purpose of the SSACs is to provide a series of interesting archery competitions that test different shooting skills. The Competitions are sponsored by the Quivers & Quarrels, the SCA Archery Community. There are four SSACs per year. The Winter Competition runs from December 1 to February 28. The Spring Competition runs from March 1 to May 31. The Summer Competition runs from June 1 to August 31. The Fall Competition runs from September 1 to November 30. There are five divisions of competition: (1) Period Handbow, (2) Open Handbow, (3) Period Crossbow, (4) Open Crossbow, and (5) Youth. How do you participate? You, or others, make the target for that specific SSAC, shoot the competition, and submit your score to the supervising Archery Marshal/Captain of Archer. They will then submit those scores to the SCA Archery Score Website. Each archer’s score is posted in the correct division dependent upon the type of bow/equipment and the archer’s age.  At any given time, archers from ten to twelve different Kingdoms participate in the competition. The SSACs are a great way to hone various aspects of your skill and to compete against Archers from across the SCA without ever leaving home. The top ten archers of each division are awarded two archery coins as a token of their skill in the SSAC. The SSACs are shot at individual practices and Baronial events. The Grand Archery Tourney
The GAT is a system that allows archers across the SCA to complete and compare their performance to archers throughout the SCA. Many archers shoot Royal Rounds, IKACs, the SSACs, and similar standardized competitions where the target type, ranges, and the number of ends are the same whenever shot. The GAT intends to allow scores obtained in these competitions to be recorded and for a competitors’ final standings to be calculated based upon their performance relative to other shooters and displayed for comparison. At any point in time, there are close to 2,000 archers who are competing in the GAT.  If individual archery competitions are seen as sprints, the GAT is a marathon.
